Reflections Devotional Week 22 Healed

Iaomai, the Greek Word (G2390) for Healed , is probably one of my most favorite words. Pronounced “ee-ah’-om-ahee”, it means “to Cure” in a literal or figurative sense; to heal, to make whole. It’s such a weighty, but beautiful, word.

healed

When we think of being healed, it’s easy to only consider physical healing.

But Jesus cares so much about our wholeness that He searches for the unseen injuries and sins that cause His people to be sick and weakened in so many more ways. When I came to know Jesus, so many years ago, I did not realize that the process of “Iaomai” would be, in some ways, lifelong.

“who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24

healed

From the moment I placed myself into His Hands, I committed to a lifetime of “collective healings” that will eventually produce a total and complete “me”.

Along the way, I have often been surprised at the continual need for His Healing Touch. In this instant-driven society, we want short-cuts and to be ‘done with it’ as quickly as possible, but I have found that this is rarely the case in addressing the fragments of our broken hearts.

Just when I think I am ‘doing well’, another layer gets peeled back to reveal the need to be healed…again. In recent years, the Lord revealed a deep wound that had been holding me back and crippling me for most of my life. I don’t know why I didn’t fully see it until this season of life, and I don’t know why He waited so long to do this particular healing in my heart, but I know He can be trusted on His timing. He has begun healing a space in me that I didn’t know needed healing!

It has left me even more surprised, and humbled, by His passionate commitment to my well-being and wholeness. The bible says we are His Workmanship (Ephesians 2:10), that:  “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6).

In these past few years, I have had an up-close and personal experience with His faithfulness in what I have perceived as my most challenging and broken years to date in Him.

He has been so faithful.

Sin, whether our own or of another, affects us all. This world is filled with it, and no one can escape the effects of it. Satan uses it to harm us every chance he gets.

And Christ, with every blow the enemy gave, with every stripe received, provided a complete healing process for us all. I have allowed myself, most painfully at times, to be examined and cared for, treated and nursed back to healing by the only Hands capable of such a task.

My heart has become sick with grief, convincing me that I was only a step away from death’s door –only to find that the Good Physician was already visiting the home of my heart and prepping for some much-needed intervention to preserve me.

He is intent on our healing, on making us whole in Him because He is faithful and because He didn’t just die in vain. He died to provide Iaomai- ‘to cure’, to heal, to make us whole.

healed

Today, I want to encourage you that if you find yourself struggling to lift up your head from self-inflicted or uninvited wounds, from brokenness that seems beyond repair- Iaomai- the cure, has been provided!

The healing power of Jesus can, and will, bring the wholeness that you need. In any season, in any circumstance, no matter the sin, offense, wound, no matter how fresh or how old- the stripes by which you were healed cover it all.

healed

Before I wrap up today, I want to give you one more definition for the word CURE, taken from the Webster’s 1828 dictionary (It’s a long definition, but bear with me):

CURE, noun [Latin , to cure to take care, to prepare.]

1. A healing; the act of healing; restoration to health from disease, and to soundness from a wound. We say, a medicine will effect a cure

2. Remedy for disease; restorative; that which heals.

Colds, hunger, prisons, ills without a cure

3. The employment of a curate; the care of souls; spiritual charge.

CURE, verb transitive [Latin See the Noun.]

1. To heal, as a person diseased or a wounded limb; to restore to health, as the body, or to soundness, as a limb.

The child was cured from that very hour. Matthew 17:16.

2. To subdue, remove, destroy or put an end to; to heal, as a disease.

Christ gave his disciples power to cure diseases. Luke 9:1.

When the person and the disease are both mentioned, cure is followed by of before the disease. The physician cured the man of his fever.

3. To remedy; to remove an evil, and restore to a good state

Did you notice that the word ‘cure’ is a noun AND a verb?

Sister, what Jesus did for you on the cross, He is STILL actively doing today! He doesn’t just heal once and then leave you to figure out healing yourself all on your own for the rest of your walk with Him.

No, precious one, you are HIS work, and He will be faithful to complete it until His Day comes- and He won’t stop healing you until you are WHOLE.

Your part… is to let Him do His Work in you.

Let’s Pray:

Father, I see from Your Word that healing is in Your Plan for me. I see that when You sent Your son to die on the cross for me, You had my wholeness in mind. Whether from sin, emotional, or physical healing- whatever it takes for me to be whole, You have provided it. Therefore, I surrender the whole of myself to You. I am Your Work. May I trust that You will be faithful to complete it in me that I might be made whole in Christ Jesus. I praise You for healing me and for caring so passionately for me. I thank You, Lord, for loving me and doing what is best for me at all times. You are a GOOD Father and You are my Healer. Help me to receive Your Care, In Jesus Name, Amen

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

What beautiful thoughts to finish my day with. I have spent the last 18 months in my own “healing” process and at some stages been angry at God that He did not deal with these things so much earlier in my walk with Him. I have struggled to know if it were my own stubbornness or His choice and timing which have led to that. But I have realised it is not fruitful to feel I have to decide. If it were stubborness, then praise Him for His faithfulness, for He kept coming back. If it were His timing then praise Him that He is in control of my changing, healing and making me more like Jesus. I suspect that the process would be much less successful if I were! Oh how I long for that day when that healing is complete!

Amen Ruth! His faithfulness is so… FAITHFUL! I’ve often told the Lord that I wish He could just ‘flip a switch’ on me and all the work would just be DONE, lol! I praise Him for His healing power and His unconditional love while doing it!
